Recruiting Information

The Organization
The Indians club originally started back in 1991. Like so many other clubs in Europe, it all started with a group of friends who started to play catch and hit a ball and then decided to found an official baseball club. The name Indians comes from the movie „Major League“.
The Indians developed from a group of friends into a club with two adult baseball teams and five youth baseball teams, aswell as two female fastpitch teams and three slowpitch teams, made out of former active baseball and softball players, but also beginners.
The men’s first baseball team and the women’s first fastpitch team are playing in Austria’s highest league, which is played nationwide. The men’s and women’s second team is a farm team for younger players. The five youth teams are all playing in regional leagues. All the players either go to school, college or work for their living, so practices are during the week in the evenings and games are on weekends and holidays only.
The organization is like one big family. Players and parents help by maintaining the field, working the concession stand, keeping score at games and umpiring youth games. Baseball and softball are amateur sports in Austria, like in most European countries, and needs volunteers to keep the club running. Only foreign players and coaches receive any kind of compensation or payment.
In 2017, the city of Dornbirn agreed to fund its first ever baseball field in Dornbirn

The Area
Dornbirn is located in the most western part of Austria, about 15 kilometers from the Swiss border, and 25 kilometers from the German border. It is also just 10 kilometers away from one of bigger lakes in central Europe. It is also surrounded by the Alps. The area is known for nature and gives you a lake to hang out or swim, mountains to hike and, in general, just be outside.
The local night light cannot compete with that of a big city, but Dornbirn has places to go out for drinks and good restaurants with local and some international cuisine. During the summer months a lot of bars move outdoor in the town center / pedestrian zone and it is a very popular place to hang out on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Most people speak English, some better than others and most of the kids speak English as well. English is taught to kids in junior high, starting at the age of 10.
Austria, in general, has a very low crime rate, is a safe and also clean place to live in. The weather is a bit tricky. It can be quite hot in the summer, but also chilly with some rain, even during the summer months.
